Stay Safe and Warm During Winter Weather

In the winter time, it is important to stay warm and stay safe. Staying warm goes beyond simply selecting which pair of gloves you use. When traveling, make sure you follow the driving tips outlined below and have a warm pair of gloves handy.

Cold Weather Driving Tips

Winter weather can be challenging for automobile travel. Take a few moments to review these safety tips for dealing with winter weather and check out our safety experts' recommendations below for the best leather winter gloves for driving.

  • Always make sure your vehicle is in peak operating condition by having it regularly inspected by your mechanic.
  • When it’s cold outside, always keep at least half a tank of gasoline in your vehicle.
  • Accelerate and decelerate slowly. Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for regaining traction and avoiding skids. Don't try to get moving too quickly. And take time to slow down for a stoplight. Remember: It takes longer to slow down on icy roads.
  • Drive more slowly than usual. Everything takes longer on snow-covered roads. Accelerating, stopping, turning – nothing happens as quickly as on dry pavement. Give yourself time to maneuver by driving slowly.
  • Try to give yourself more space. Normally on dry pavement, the following distance is three to four seconds. When the roads are icy or snowy, the distance should be increased to eight to ten seconds. This increased margin of safety will provide the longer distance needed if you have to stop.
  • Always be aware of your brakes. Whether you have antilock brakes or not, the best way to stop is threshold braking. Keep the heel of your foot on the floor and use the ball of your foot to apply firm, steady pressure on the brake pedal.
  • Don't fully stop if you can avoid it. There is a difference in the amount of inertia it takes to start moving from a full stop versus how much it takes to get moving while still rolling. If you can slow down enough to keep rolling until a traffic light changes, do it.
  • Be careful not to fully accelerate up hills. Applying extra gas on snow-covered roads just starts your wheels spinning. Try to get a little inertia going before you reach the hill and let that inertia carry you to the top. As you reach the crest of the hill, reduce your speed and proceed down hill as slowly as possible.
  • When driving up a hill, don't stop before reaching the top. There is nothing worse than trying to get moving up a hill on an icy road. Get some inertia going on a flat roadway before you take on the hill.
  • Stay home, if possible. If you don't have to go out, consider staying inside. Even if you can drive well in the snow, not everyone else can. The fewer the number of cars on the road, the lower the risk is for a collision.

If you follow these safety tips while driving, you will keep yourself and those around you safer during this winter season.

What Sets Leather Winter Gloves Apart?

Leather winter gloves stand out from other types of gloves because of their unique combination of style, durability, and functionality. They are typically crafted from high quality leather, which not only provides an elegant appearance, but also offers exceptional insulation against cold weather. Some pairs even offer touchscreen compatibility and/or keystone thumb technology.

One key feature that distinguishes leather winter gloves is their ability to maintain warmth even in harsh conditions. Leather is an excellent insulator, keeping your hands cozy and protected from biting cold winds. Additionally, leather gloves often have a lining, such as fleece or thermal material, which enhances their insulation properties.

Finally, leather gloves tend to be more durable and longer-lasting than their counterparts made of synthetic materials. They can withstand wear and tear, making them a long-lasting investment. Their resistance to moisture also ensures that they remain functional in wet and snowy conditions.
